Mount Juliet Golf Club
‘Best Parkland Golf Course in Ireland’
Only a 20 minute drive from Kilkenny City, Mount Juliet Golf Course opened in 1991 with a match featuring golfing legends Christy O’Connor Snr and Jack Nicklaus. The beautiful and challenging Mount Juliet golf course has established itself as a premier golfing venue for top professionals as well as leisure golfers worldwide. Chosen as the first and only Jack Nicklaus signature golf course in Ireland, the “Golden Bear” was meticulous and pain-staking in his design and overseeing of the construction of his great creation.
Feature holes on the course include the stunning third hole, a par three from an elevated tee to a green guarded by a natural stream and lake. Also the par five, 10th hole, with its copse of trees, tests the golfer’s strategy. The final hole, a long par four with water all down the left and a narrow approach to the green, has decided many a tournament result. The par-72, 7,300-yard layout boasts rolling fairways, many feature water hazards and contoured greens, all superbly blended into the spectacular setting of this famous old Irish estate.
Kilkenny Golf Club
The course, which is of championship standard, is set on 120 acres of parkland and measures 5,933 metres with a par of 71. It is a popular venue for regional play-offs and finals in the Leinster area and has hosted the All Ireland Cups and Shields finals.
The course is mostly flat terrain with an abundance of trees. Notable features are the difficult par threes, the longer par four eleventh hole and the final four holes which have ruined many a fine card. The course has undergone significant enhancement over the years and boasts sand-based greens ensuring that the course is playable all year round.

The course is a wonderful parkland golf course with 3 lined fairways and superb greens complimented by various water hazards, lakes and streams. The 15th hole is arguably the most picturesque hole on the course, no bunkers, no water, just a corridor of fairway caught between 2 rows of 100ft plus trees. The signature hole is the 4th hole; a fantastic hole based on the 13th hole at Augusta. Playing to 100ft trees in the distance, you have to avoid the tress to the right and the creek to the left, expect to play your second shot over the creek which surrounds the green; a true index 2 hole.
